Food That Makes Your Tastebuds Soar

Airports serve as a hub to the wide open road in the sky. Many travelers simply use them to board flying contraptions that can send them anywhere around the world within about half of a day. However, with air travel  rapidly increasing , airports are becoming much more than waiting rooms. Some of the largest airports in the United States, like in  Atlanta  and  New York , offer dozens of gift shops and dining options in each terminal to entertain and profit off of the thousands of passengers that pass through. Last week I made a lengthy travel to Kentucky to spend a week with some friends. On my way back to Daytona I had to stop at Hartsfield-Jackson Airport in Atlanta and wait for my connecting flight. My layover was around four hours. Instead of sitting around on my tablet waiting for my flight to arrive I decided to take a walk around the gigantic terminal and see what options were available to satisfy my appetite. I found typical chain restaurants such as TGI...

Steel City Pizza

Image
When a restaurant expands into a million dollar facility, they must be doing something right with their food. Case in point for Giuseppe’s Steel City Pizza . While I do realize I’ve already written a post about their expansion, I knew I needed to follow up with their food. An opportunity to try a restaurant that has  won dozens  of Daytona Beach News Journal’s Reader’s Choice Awards  can’t be passed up. Pulling up to the building I could tell it had been there for quite some time with it’s low ceiling yet gigantic one-way windows. Once I walked inside my eyes were glancing all around the room trying to inspect each of the thousands of pictures, license plates, and sports paraphernalia that was crammed into such a small area. It honestly felt like a man cave, and I would’ve enjoyed it had it not been for all the Pittsburgh gear. They’re not called Steel City Pizza for nothing. I tried to take a 360 degree photo of their most decorated room, but I was very unsucces...

Disney Gets Their Guy

A new restaurant is coming to Disney World, and it’s sure to set the theme park on Fieri. Chicken Guy! is  planned to open in August  of this year at Disney Springs , formally known as Downtown Disney. The restaurant will join the likes of other unique eateries such as  Earl of Sandwich  and  Wolfgang Puck Express. Disney has dont a magnificent job attracting business to its version of a Main Street strip. Already with dozens of restaurants,  a dine-in movie theater ,  a bowling alley , and  a House of Blues , adding a Guy Fieri inspired restaurant will only increase their business even more. Set to be Guy’s  eighteenth different restaurant , Chicken Guy! at Disney’s Springs just adds on to the long list of accomplishments for the  chef, restaurateur, and Food Network host. The new restaurant looks to have an inticing menu full of unique creations. Often considered the safest choice at an unfamiliar restauran, chicken tenders is re...

Guiseppe’s Pizza Palace

Image
A family owned pizza parlor that’s basically considered a Port Orange landmark, Giuseppe’s Steel City Pizza  has been cooking up flavorful New York-style pizza since 1982. The building has rarely changed, and the interior has been continuously collecting memorabilia ever since it’s opening. However, an expansion is on the horizon. While their business flow has always remained steady and profitable, the owners realize their loyal customers deserve a much modern dining area compared to the cramped building they’ve been using for decades. Their plan is to construct a brand new million dollar restaurant next to their current building but keep the same great food that people love. I recently spoke to the owner, Joe Mialki, on why they wanted to expand their business. It’s good to see a family owned business care about its customers and is willing to spend money on improved amenities. Mialki says their goal is to hopefully have the building open and ready for business by De...

The Danger of Eating Out

Yes, there are some positives to eating meals at a restaurant. It puts the duty of cooking and cleaning on someone other than yourself, the food is typically tastier than food cooked at home, and it can be a great night out socializing with friends or family. However, with the positives there are also negatives. For starters, it is  much more expensive  to eat out  than to buy food from a store and prepare it at home. It can also take more time to drive to the location, wait for a table, wait for the food, eat the food, and then drive back home as compared to taking about an hour to cook your own food, eat it, and then clean the dishes. However, neither of these are as bad as the impact that eating these large and salty meals can have on our bodies. I am talking about weight gain. An Overweight Problem Many Americans have been packing on the pounds  as they choose restaurants over home cooking. Sadly. I have been experiencing this problem lately as well. Due to ...

Take Me Out To The Ballgame

Image
Normally people go to a baseball game for the entertainment, the history, and the homeruns. But on Tuesday, I was looking for a homerun of flavor. I treated myself to a Daytona Tortugas  minor league baseball game, mostly because it was taco Tuesday. The famed Jackie Robinson Ballpark  located on   City Island  in the heart of downtown Daytona was the present site of a successful baseball team and an expanding list of unique and tasty snacks. From serving plain hamburgers, hotdogs, and basic cheese pizza ordered from Papa Johns to having a variety of items such as homemade root beer floats, bratwurst, and innovative grilled cheeses. I spoke to an employee of the ‘Hot Corner’ as they call it, and she informed me on their best sellers and what’s in store for the future. While many of the items she suggested sounded tasty, I went with two beef tacos, which were four dollars. However, I was so hungry I forgot to take a picture of them! They were about the si...

I Sea Food. Do You?

Yes, I know. Shocking how it’s taken me a few months to review a seafood restaurant while living in a coastal city! To be honest, it took me this long because there wasn’t one within a twenty minute drive of my house. But, the wait it over! Dining At The Deck It was  race week this past weekend in Daytona so, naturally, I took myself to a eatery that’s always packed with race fans - Our Deck Down Under . Located under the  Dunlawton Bridge  and on the water of the  Halifax River , ‘the deck’, as locals call it, has been a seafood staple in the community for decades. For the most part the food and decor has remained the same throughout the years, but that’s the way regulars like it as they keep coming back for more. To get to the deck, you have to take an immediate right turn off the bridge which takes you right to the parking lot directly under it. The fishy smell is strongly present, but if you can tolerate it you’ll be rewarded with some good seafood. T...
