Take Me Out To The Ballgame
Normally people go to a baseball game for the entertainment, the history, and the homeruns. But on Tuesday, I was looking for a homerun of flavor.
I treated myself to a Daytona Tortugas minor league baseball game, mostly because it was taco Tuesday. The famed Jackie Robinson Ballpark located on City Island in the heart of downtown Daytona was the present site of a successful baseball team and an expanding list of unique and tasty snacks. From serving plain hamburgers, hotdogs, and basic cheese pizza ordered from Papa Johns to having a variety of items such as homemade root beer floats, bratwurst, and innovative grilled cheeses. I spoke to an employee of the ‘Hot Corner’ as they call it, and she informed me on their best sellers and what’s in store for the future.
While many of the items she suggested sounded tasty, I went with two beef tacos, which were four dollars. However, I was so hungry I forgot to take a picture of them! They were about the size of a Taco Bell taco and came with lettuce, tomatoe, shredded cheese, and parsley. For the upcharge at venues, it really wasn’t a bad deal as a single plain hotdog was about that price. I would have liked to try more items but the prices were a bit too high for me, like nine dollars for a Sheldon footlong hotdog.
It was a cute little ballpark that the community seems to rally around as there was about two thousand people there on that Tuesday night. The selection was limited compared to professional ballparks, unsurprisingly, but I doubt you’ll find better options at a different minor league ballpark. I would definitely return, but only on a taco Tuesday. If not, then I’ll eat beforehand.
